Annually at the Section Conclave a Section Business Meeting will be held with the primary business of electing officers for the following term. This business meeting will occur on Sunday morning, April 16 immediately following breakfast. Section Officers include the Section Chief, Section Vice Chief, and Section Secretary.
The Section Officers elected at the 2023 Section Conclave will serve through the 2024 Section Conclave.
Those who wish to be nominated as a candidate for a 2023-2024 section office must submit a Section E1 Officer Candidacy Form 2023 to the Section Advisers by 7:00pm EST on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Those interested in being a section officer should make themselves familiar with the Field Operations Guide, which is the publication that provides details on OA national and regional organization, section rules, section conclave guidelines, and section training. The FOG also details the method of elections and the duties of the Section Chief, Section Vice Chief, and Section Secretary.
Each lodge will have the same number of votes to cast at the business meeting as they have youth members present, up to a maximum of ten votes. This is explained in the FOG, linked above. Additionally, the Order of the Arrow has a long-standing, unwritten expectation that those running for national or regional office do not actively campaign for those elected positions. Section E1 will have the same expectation of its officer candidates and lodges. Candidates for elected section officer positions as well as the lodges and lodge members of the Section, and guests of the Section will be asked to refrain from actively campaigning for any candidate. If anyone has questions on this or needs clarification or definition, please inquire to the Section Adviser.
Section Officers for the 2023 – 2024 are expected to be in attendance and participate in Council of Chiefs meetings and the Section Officer Seminar (Eastern Region training) in late October. Additionally, for the Section Chief only, is the OA National Planning Meeting in Boulder, CO on December 27-30, 2023.
