NLS and DYLC Training Opportunities in 2023

February 2023

Section E1 Arrowmen,

Because of our geographic location we can benefit from National Leadership Seminar (NLS) and Developing Youth Leadership Conference (DYLC) trainings in both regions within the OA. In our own Eastern Region, there are two opportunities near our section borders and in the Gateway Region there is one nearby session.

NLS is for youth and adult Arrowmen. DYLC is for adult Arrowmen only. The “new” NLS was completely re-designed and enhanced in 2018 with new sessions on Adaptive LeadershipHow you Learn, an emphasis on building teams of leaders. DYLC was introduced in 2017 and has been enhanced almost yearly, including How you Learn and even better ties in with the NLS so that advisers can more effectively lead and coach the youth leaders and adults they work with. Please note, the DYLC is not Lodge Adviser Training on how to operate a lodge. It is focused on working with youth to help them become wildly successful in Scouting, the OA and life. If you are an adult in the Order, you should attend, regardless of your “title” in the Order. Both trainings will aid the trainee in all aspects for their life, now and in the future.

Two opportunities are happening in March which are within reasonable driving distance to most of our Section E1 lodges:

  • March 17-19 NLS/DYLC will occur in Carlinville, IL (near St. Louis). Registration deadline for this event is March 6.
  • March 24-26 in Sharpsburg, PA (near Pittsburgh). Registration deadline for this event is March 10.

Later in the Fall, the trainings will be offered in Hillsdale, MI on September 8-10 which will be close for our northern lodges.

Pricing for these training vary due to facility costs, so be sure to look at the event and registration information at www.registration.oa-bsa.org. Act quickly as these trainings will fill up.

Anyone who is interested should talk to their lodge adviser prior to signing up. If you wish to talk to a current or former section officer about the value add of these programs, please email advisers@oasectione1.org and we will get you connected.
